A Scene from John & Rheumina
After the Race
It's Durphy street . John is leading his sweaty horse Quick Silver. Rheumina's brother Jasper walks beside him.
- John: Can't believe I was skunked by a girl.
- Jasper: You don't know the worst of it. That mare that beat you is named Buttercup.
- John: She is beautiful!
- Jasper: Grandpa Wilson gave her to Rheumina . One of two that's from Kentucky stock. I think what cinched Grandpa was when Rheumina would not let go of the colt's neck. That crazy girl had to be dragged from the barn.
- john: I wasn't talkin' about the horse.
- Jasper: Wait-a-mighty minute here. You were sayin' Rheumina is beautiful? You can forget what's rambling around in your lame brain. She won't give the time of day to anyone whose not a member of her church.
